My Hajj Amir; Maulana Rashid Ahmad

Inna Lillahi Wainna Ilayhi Raajioon, the founder of Ahmed Travel and Tours, Advocate Maulana Rashid Ahmad has passed away, with Covid, in Bangladesh.

I had seen a few pictures and posts about Maulana Rashid Ahmed, mainly from posts of former executive Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets Ohid Ahmed, his brother.

Little did I know that Allah would bless me to perform Hajj in 2019 and Maulana happened to be our Amir. He had established Ahmed Travels and Tours which his sons run. The company is around 30 years old.

Maulana had been a huge inspiration during Hajj. I don't have any complaints with regards to his character, his service. His words that he shared during our journey to keep us motivated was incredible. In Mina he used to do talks in English and Bangla simultaneously. It was a great benefit to all. He would encourage people not to waste time and make the most of the time we had there.

When I introduced myself to him, I told him that he knew my father in-law, Maulana Numan. Upon hearing he smiled and said, "Then in that case you are my son in-law."

When we left for Mina he kept everyone's cash as an Amana so we don't lose them and returned it pound for pound. When I went to get the money back, he joked with me and asked "what money are you asking for?" (Sounds better in Bangla!

During Arafat he gathered everyone for a group Dua. He used to say, "make Dua with emotion and devotion" that really stuck in my mind. In addition to being an Alim, he was also a solicitor by profession and involved in politics too.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alyhiwasallam) said: "From one Umrah to another is an expiation for the sins that came in between them, and Hajj Mabrur (an accepted Hajj) brings no less a reward than Paradise."

He was at the service of Hujjaj for 3 decades. I ask Allah to forgive him, be kind to him and grant him Jannatul Firdaus and sabr to his family, Aameen.
