REVIEW: A Beautiful Patience

Alhamdulillah I just completed reading A Beautiful Patience by Imam Shabbir Hassan.

This book derives life lessons from Surah Yusuf, the story of Yusuf Alyhiwasallam is narrated here, which has been described by Allah as the 'best of stories.'

One of the notable phrases in Surah Yusuf is 'beautiful patience' and many Ulama use the story of Prophet Yusuf Alyhiwasallam as an example of having patience in Allah.

The author has put forward 40 lessons we can take from this beautiful Surah. And what is amazing is that these 40 lessons aren't something he just thought about whilst lying in bed, these are what the average person is going through and needs motivation to overcome each challenge and derive benefits from.

I really appreciate the work that's gone into each lesson. You can tell how much research had to go into each lesson. This book isn't a Tafsir, yet touches up a few points. But also works based on academic research. MashaAllah the author is an Alim and has a Masters, so research from both angles are intertwined, which is beautiful.

Each lesson has a quote or two from the author regarding the topic, which highlights the topic concisely. One may not comprehend everything that's written, but these quotes emphasise the points.

I like the fact the book is written clearly and not full of difficult words that one may not understand easily! It's a book written for the average reader, lessons targeted for the average person. I looked forward to reading it each time I put it down and it's one of those books that's hard to put down too!

I personally benefited hugely from this book. Each lesson resonated with me. I feel as though it was a friend guiding me along during each moment that I was experiencing.

The book is a hardback, but a beautiful smooth material wrapped around. The cover is simple and beautiful with gold lettering. There's also a thin red bookmark ribbon inside the book. It's a beautiful book, a great gift to someone too.

I would highly recommend one to pick up the book and spend some time to read it. It'll be great for families to get together and read to each other too.

10/10
