I am shocked and saddened by the death of my dear Amin bai, who was a very active volunteer of Ummah Welfare Trust, Tower Hamlets.
I have fond memories of Amin bai. We would often go out at night at Tarawih times to different Masajid to fundraise for the Ummah. MashaAllah he was a beloved brother, who would often bring his little son to volunteer. Amin bai bought his son a Kinder egg once. His son, broke half and gave one have to his dad. Amin bai said, "maybe it's his involvement in charity work that's making him generous."
We have good memories of going to Regents Park Mosque for Iftar and Tarawih. There we would fundraise and distribute leaflets for Ummah Welfare Trust. Sometimes he'd be made amir of the group and sometimes myself. I remember if there was a decision to make he'd be like "You're the amir mate, you decide."
Amin bai had such a contagious smile. Once, a week or so after I got married I bumped into him outside ELM. He said "Mujib, have you thanked Allah for all that time you made Dua to get married?" He was an older brother who really cared about others.
I remember we organised an event to help those struggling in Bosnia during the floods and Amin bai's family put in so much effort for that event. Cooking and baking some delicious food MashaAllah.
Once me and Amin bai were giving out Ummah Welfare Trust leaflets outside Masjid E-Quba in Stamford Hill. A non-Muslim couple walked by and we had a casual chat. The lady put her hand out to shake our hands but Amin bai said, "we don't shake hands with women," she was taken aback and said "but isn't that a barrier to communication?" I replied to her, "we just had a good conversation, there was no barrier then was there?" and she was shocked!
One time he was wearing the Ummah Welfare Trust t-shirt which bearing the slogan 'The Ummah is Like One Body.' A Jewish lady read that and asked him what it means. She than took out her phone and donated £100 to UWT just by that short encounter.
I've come to know that him and his wife went for Hajj with my sister and her husband.
I attended his Janazah and it was very emotional for me personally. Thousands of people attended, there was 6 Janazah's in total. His family are raising funds to build a Masjid in Gambia as a Sadaqah Jaariyah for him: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/4amin
Amin bai I'll miss you. You reminded me of death once again. You left a legacy bro. You left smiles and positivity and changed lives.
Make Dua for his family, he was only 38 and leaves behind a wife and 4 young children. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and sabr to his family, Aameen.
