Alhamdulillah I have been involved in helping to build Two Masajid in Africa, with a group of friends. One which my good friend Rofikul went to Somaliland and saw that people were praying out in the open, with stones to signify the boundaries of a Masjid. He also saw that children learnt in a madrasah, which was under a tree!
With such a concern in mind, we came up with the idea to build a Masjid, which will house the Madrasah too. The Masjid will have space for 350 people, including women, space for the madrasah, wudu and toilet facilities and be solar powered.
Our intention is to make it a Sadaqah Jaariyah for all the deceased and decided to name it Masjid Nurul Islam, after a prominent Bangladeshi scholar Hazrat Shaykhul Hadith Maulana Nurul Islam Bishwanathi (d.2019) Rahimahullah, the teacher of one of our brothers, Syed.
Alhamdulillah we got in touch with a UK based charity called East Africa Welfare and Development Association (EWADA), which is headed by Shaykh Adam, a wonderful shaykh from Somaliland, who lives in London mashaAllah.
Alhamdulillah we set up a just giving page and started fundraising. As well as raising funds online, with a lot of generous donations, we also had a few campaigns to aid the fundraiser:
Musallah Campaign:
We set the price of one Musallah/share of the Masjid at £40 each and had a huge response from the community in UK. Alhamdulillah the Musallah campaign took place in twice during our fundraiser for the Masjid, during Ramadhan and Dhul Hijjah. The one we did in Dhul Hijjah, we also made personalised e-certificates for donors in their name or their loved ones.
100 miles cycle:
One of our brothers cycled from London to Luton and its surrounding areas. Alhamdulillah we raised a huge amount in just a day.
MashaAllah to do such a challenge is amazing. He was in a bit of pain after. This ride was in commemoration of brother Abu Dujana who sadly passed away as a result of coronavirus, rahimahullah.
Food campaign:
One of our brothers, Abu Yaqub, is a great cook and came up with the idea to make homemade roast chicken, biryani and naga wings. Alhamdulillah this campaign took place for 4 weeks and had a wonderful response from the community of Tower Hamlets and other areas.
Be sure to watch and subscribe his YouTube channel where he shows you how to cook the dishes we had for the food campaign: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCadQ5lzXfbpmSzbJZtHJp0w
Alhadmulillah the full target of £15,000 has been raised for Masjid Nurul Islam! Allahu Akbar!
Masjid Zolika Bibi:
It didn't take us long to start working on a new Masjid, this time one in Sierra Leone where there is a huge need to build Masajid and provide education to the community there. We are working on fundraising for Masjid Zolika Bibi, in memory of the grandmother of Rofikul, who was a pious lady and passed away this year, 2020. May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus, Aameen.
This Masjid is in support of Ummah Welfare Trust, a well known UK based charity which is headed by Ulama and has a 100% donations policy. This means no money from your donations are used for administration costs. This is a policy the charity has chosen to implement since they began in 2001 mashaAllah.
If you would like to donate to this great cause visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/masjidzolika and just pop in some funds.
Alhamdulillah I am really enjoying this project and hope you can make Du'a and support too inshaAllah.
