Kebab Puri and Dua!

Inna Lillahi Wainna Ilayhi Rajioon, recently we heard about the death of Mr. Iftikhar Hussain, who was the owner of the famous Nagina Sweets (which used to be in Cannon St Rd but now in Ilford Lane). May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus, Aameen.

I remember as a school kid I used to frequent his shop and buy the famous Kebab Puri. It was my favourite which used to cost £1. And I'm telling you it was delicious each time! The kebab on the puri, with onions mixed in mint sauce and that famous red sauce!

Each time Uncle Iftikhar used to serve me, he would always smile. Always. He seemed to be happy all the time.

One day, in Ramadhan, around 17 years ago, I went for my usual Kebab Puri (for Iftar ok!). I gave the uncle £1, but he said the price has gone up to £1.20. I was kind of shocked but not surprised, as the price probably went up due to Ramadhan. He said not to worry and I could pay the rest another day.

The next day I went to pay the remaining 20p, he said "Don't worry, someone paid for it already yesterday". I was surprised this time. Someone actually paid the remaining amount for me. Till this day I don't know who that person was. But each Ramadhan, I tend to remember this little incident and I make Du'a for that person, whoever it was.

Amazing what a small action can achieve.
