Background:
When we went to Bradford, our relatives made Shakshuka for breakfast. I loved it so much that I asked for the recipe. Alhamdulillah I made it and was so happy that my sister's were round to enjoy it too. This is one style, you can add other ingredients if you like.
The following is for one Baked Beans can, you can do as much as you like that'll fit the frying pan.
Ingredients:
• Baked Beans (415g a can)
• 1tsp Cumin powder (1tsp per Baked Beans can)
• 1tsp Curry/Chili powder (1tsp per Baked Beans can)
• 1 large onion chopped
• 1tbsp oil
• Sliced pepper (optional) for crunch
• Salt (optional)
• Egg
Method:
1. On medium to low heat - Chop one onion and pepper and add to pan together.
(It tastes nice when the peppers are not fully cooked and you can slightly bite into it instead of fully soft, but that’s up to how you like it)
2. Add some salt, then cook till soft.
3. Then add beans wait about 2 minutes till it heats up slightly.
4. Then add chili powder and cumin powder.
5. The main spice is cumin and then Chilli is according to your spice level but it's meant to be slightly spicy.
6. Stir the 2 spices into the beans well. Then crack however many eggs you want onto the beans.
7. Put the flame onto high and cover the pan. Wait about 3-4 minutes for the eggs to be done.
8. Then turn off heat. (You put the flame on high so that the whites cook fast and hopefully the yolk stays runny).
Sprinkle a bit of Coriander or even Basil, Spinach leaves etc.
Then serve, take a picture if you like and tag me on Instagram @hajisadventure :) say Bismillah and eat, ideally with toast, naan etc.
May Allah bless your cooking skills, Aameen
